~ An interview with somebody I know or want to know. ~
This time: Shannon
Her Blog: Shannon on Facebook (come play Draw Something with her!)
Her professional pose:
1. How did your parents pick your name?
I know that they were between a few names. Specifically Hannah, Courtney, and Shannon. My dad said no to the first two as they reminded him of inmates from the prison (he was a correctional officer for 25 years and a state penitentiary out here in California). I don’t think it was anything more than a name they liked. My middle name though, Dale, is a family name, it’s my father’s middle name and like my great grandmothers and then continues to go back through the generations.
2. How did you meet your fiance, Chris?
Chris and I met in 2009 at a casino around here, he was a cook and i was a cocktail waitress. I thought he was cute so would subtly flirt, he had to have another waitress point out that I was flirting with him for him to even act on the fact that he also thought I was cute. We are hoping to get married in 2013, probably July or August. Chris keeps getting promoted at work so our moving dates is being pushed back so not sure if the wedding will be too. I really don’t like planning a wedding, and I really really don’t like how much it costs so I’m sort of planning, I’m making lists and copying pictures of what I like but I’m not really actively doing much…
3. Tell the truth: do you send text messages while driving?
I was 16 when I first got a cell phone. I got it because I had just gotten my license and was driving around my sister so my parents wanted to get a hold of me and me to be able to get a hold of them if anything happened. I hated it in the beginning because it felt like they took away my freedom, previously I could just come home whenever; now they could call me and ask what I was doing, where I was, and when I was going to be home. I used to be horrible about texting and driving, I did it all the time. Now I have a fancy bluetooth that I can make calls and text through with my voice so I don’t have use my phone!
4. What is it like working for Verizon (the cell phone company)?
I’ve been at Verizon for almost two years now. We live in an area that has a less than legal form of an economy (marijuana) so many people who grow and deal only pay for things in cash. It always has a suspicious odor to it, and then people will always make a joke that it’s “hot off the press”, I then promptly run a money marker over it.
5. Who do you most admire?
My father. He is my hero and the rock in my life. Not sure what will happen when he passes away, I know I’ll be a wreck for sure. He was very tough on my sister and me growing up, but as I grew up I realized his thoughts behind his actions. Also he has given so much for me to have the life and education that I do now that I couldn’t imagine anyone more caring.
